NEW! HONEYCOMB ALUMINUM SHEETS. Awesome strength with lightweight material
Order samples below. Prices are for domestic shipping only. (Email firstname.lastname@example.org for international shipping)
When designing the Belite Chipper, we came across honeycomb aluminum to fabricate much of the airframe. Honeycomb has been considered for aerospace applications since Hugo Junkers patented the first honeycomb cores for aircraft application in 1915. In 1969 Boeing incorporated fire-resistant honeycombs in the 747.
Honeycomb is a high strength composite panel that we've found perfect for giving Chipper the strength and weight we desired. The pictured sample is 5' x 2' x 1/2".
As a general rule, these panels have the following attributes:
- Extremely Low Weight
- Excellent Strength
- High Resistance to Moisture
- High Resistance to Corrosion
- Excellent Thermal Conductivity
We are offering inexpensive panels so you can check it out. Samples are available in 9"x 6"x 1/2" or 12"x 9" x 1/2" for $11.99. (Includes domestic shipping by US Mail.) Price is good through Wednesday, May 31.
Suggested uses: floor boards in experimental aircraft, boats, aircraft seats, bulkheads... use your imagination! We used it to make the seat of the SkyDock (see photo).
Material: 1/2" Honeycomb aluminum with a weight of 9.3 ounces per square foot. Skins are 2024T3 with a thickness of .012".
